Good Books in Children's Fantasy/Fiction
Jan 14 2008, 11:30 AM EST
I've decided to create a list of relatively new good children's books. My focus was primarily fantasy. Feel free to add.Harry Potter (though I have to admit I didn't think seven was her best) Tamora Pierce's Series (These books tend to have strong female protagonists) Tortall Series Song of the Lioness Quartet (Alanna: The First Adventure/ In the Hand of the Goddess/ The Woman Who Rides Like a Man/ Lioness Rampant). The Immortals Quartet (Wild Magic/ Wolf-Speaker/ Emperor Mage/ The Realms of the Gods) Protector of the Small (First Test/ Page/ Squire/ Lady Knight) Trickster's Choice & Trickster's Queen Terrier Winding Circle Books (Books based on Sandry, Daja, Briar, and Tris, beginning at Winding Circle Temple). The Circle of Magic Quartet (Sandry's Book/ Tris's Book/ Daja's Book/ Briar's Book) The Circle Opens Quartet (Magic Steps/ Street Magic/ Cold Fire/ Shatterglass) The Will of the Empress Philip Pullman (these books are deep) The Golden Compass The Subtle Knife The Amber Spyglass Robin Mckinley (She has several good books, one is the blue sword) Christopher Paolini (Eragon and Eldest, his writing begins weak, but improves with each book). Stephenie Meyer (Young Adult Vampire series, start out fun, get progressively more depressing- Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse) P.B. Kerr - Children of the Lamp Books 1-3 (about djinn) I just read these Gail Carson Levine- Ella Enchanted Annie Sage - Septimus Heap Series (currently 3 expecting 7) Suzanne Collins (Underland Chronicles- Gregor the Overlander etc.) These are really good Jonathan Stroud: The Bartimaeus Trilogy (not my favorite but others rave) Do you find this valuable?

Wow. I'm printing this list for good ideas. I'll never lack for good reads now. I'm sure you've read books by Jeanne DuPrau (City of Ember, People of Sparks)?
